We are Hike One, one of the finest teams of digital product designers in The Netherlands. Maybe you’ve ran into us before without knowing it. We worked on Rituals, Marktplaats, Signify, Squla, and more. Our team consists of over 50+ designers, currently spread between our home-offices in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and Eindhoven. We design digital services that not only look awesome but work extremely smooth as well.

As you join Hike One you will be assigned to one of our profiles. These profiles describe how you approach your work and what we, as a company expect from you in the role that you fill. Each profile has a different take on how to contribute and make an impact on the Hike One purpose. The profiles are used by the team builder to discuss how you contribute to Hike One and to define the salary raise at the end of the year.
Another tool that helps you to develop your career from a young professional to a successful design lead, project lead or organisational contributor is our growth framework. This framework shows you the possible paths for you to follow, providing guidelines and insights on how to develop yourself and your career. Which paths are available to you depend on both your needs and the needs in the organisation. It is a tool that you can use to define your growth path and decide on the steps to take to develop your career.
Team builder catch-ups
We provide you with a Team Builder to help you get more insight, motivation and direction to advance your career based on your personal goals. Together you’ll discuss the goals and the work that you do, you’ll receive continuous feedback on how you are doing and how you can adjust and adapt your performance.
An extra budget that you hold is the personal budget. These are 10 days and €1.200.- a year (based on full time employment) for you to schedule as you wish. Seek out knowledge and inspiration from outside the company to keep up to date with the latest developments. For example; take a day to learn a new tool, attend training, external events or conferences. These resources are for you to spend on anything that contributes to your professional development.
As you get feedback from your Team Builder, we also urge you to get regular feedback from your peers and the clients you work for. These are the people you work with each and every day, by asking for feedback right after a situation, a meeting or an exciting presentation, helps you to get specific and relevant feedback. We help you get this by providing tools to make feedback requests easy, and training on how to give and receive feedback. From day one, you should make asking for feedback a habit.
Hike One Academy
Our Hike One Academy offers you the means to develop your skills further, through training, knowledge sessions and mentoring. We are constantly evolving and updating our educational programme, to make sure you can stay up to date with the latest developments within UX and build on the skills required for our client work.
To support you in developing your craft and broaden and deepen your skillset, we provide a number of internal trainings. We have a broad range of courses, created by your colleagues, about tools and methods we use at our clients. This ensures we all have the same way of working and deliver the same quality in the projects we do. There is also a set of soft skill training that will help you to organise your work, to improve your conversation techniques and to make you better equipped to deal with stressful situations. All training is continuously updated and improved to match both the Hiker and our clients needs.
Besides training we empower Hikers to share their knowledge. We do this in a variety of sessions. Lunch lectures are an easy way to share your learnings on a new tool or method or something random that gives you inspiration. Work celebrations are there to celebrate the projects we have brought to a conclusion and, to share your approach for the projects with your colleagues. Roundtable breakfasts are sessions in the morning to discuss topics brought in by Hikers, in more detail.
When you want to seek help from a colleague to work on your personal development goals, or need guidance on a project from a more experienced Hiker, you can request a mentor. The goals for mentoring differ per person but there are roughly 3 options: support in a project, 1-1 sessions outside of a project and shadowing an experienced mentor on their project. Mentors are there to support you in helping you grow as a Hiker.
When you want to discuss topics with someone who is not part of our team, you can seek help from an external coach. Our HR manager can help you find a good match. The topics you discuss with a coach aren’t shared with the company. Topics people discuss with an external coach range from stress resistance, to work/life balance to career advice.
